Early Life:
The birth of this acting prodigy took place in Woodland Hill, California. He was born in a middle class family. His mother Barbara was a simple housewife whereas his father Al Gerstenfeld worked as a hearing aid salesman to make the ends meet. Garrett’s initial years of studying were spent at George Ellery Hale Middle School. He is an ex-graduate of El Camino Real High School, which is situated in his town of birth i.e. Woodland Hills. He enrolled himself at the University of California Los Angeles but gave up his studies in between to make a name for himself as a seasoned comedian.
Career:
Garret stated his long acting journey by performing in various improve clubs located in Los Angeles. In 1984 he participated in a TV show entitled as “Star Search.” The show’s basic purpose was to recognize and honor the upcoming acting talent. Luckily, Garrett came out on the top in the comedy category and pocketed a sum of $100,000 as prize money. He is among the youngest actors to have made an appearance in famous “The Tonight Show.” The actor was just 23 years old when he was invited to a part of this show. His comic act immediately caught the eyes of the American audience. Thereafter, he almost became a regular feature on this series.
After tasting some success as a stand-up comedian, Garrett decided to shift his focus towards TV. He gave his voice for an anime series entitled as, “Hulk Hogan’s Rock’n Wrestling.” His voice molding ability was utilized for giving life to the character of wrestling legend Hulk Hogan.
In year 1998 he was a regular feature of a short-lived comedy drama, “First Impressions.” He portrayed the character of a divorced father who uses his skill of making impressions in order to make the ends meet. He is also renowned for his acts in “Roseanne” and “The Pursuit pf Happiness.” These drams were aired on ABC and NBC respectively. Garrett featured in “Suicide Kings” as an unfortunate mugger. One of his most recent roles has been his portrayal of Robert Barone on the hit comedy based drama series, “Everybody Loves Raymond.” His convincing role portrayal won him as many as five Emmy nominations. Garret was part of a movie entitled as, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
Garret has an inherent talent of playing with his voice and improvising as per the character requirements. His most praiseworthy voice acts came in” Finding Nemo”, “A Bug’s Life”, “Justice League Unlimited”, “Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series” and ” Asterix and the Vikings.”
Personal Life:
On May 18, 1999 Garrett married his long time girlfriend Jill Diven. Unfortunately the couple separated in 2005. Together they have one son and a daughter.
Garrett has used a rough voice for portraying his character in “Everybody Loves Raymond.” However, his actual voice has a high pitch tonal quality. Garret belongs to community of tall and streamlined hunks. His actual height is 6 feet 8 ½ inches.
Role in Everybody Loves Raymond:
He is renowned for enactment of Robert Barone, Ray’s brother. Barone is among the tallest characters of the series which helps him to stand out among all others. He has a peculiar habit of touching the eatables to his chin before dishing on them. Barone has been working for the New York City Police Department for more than two decades. He is put off by the extra attention and care received by his brother from their mother. In one of the episodes, he projects his displeasure by pronouncing the name of the series in a mocking way. He is among the funniest characters in this laugh riot.
